Start
It's time to start writing.
There's no single defining reason for why I'm starting now. Of the hundreds of reasons I've read and heard as to why you should or shouldn't, I think I'm past the stage of contemplating and more than happy to commit.
The timing feels right, though. I've recently concluded an internship where I pushed myself to publish at least one code review (CR) per day, often including a well-curated change description, some assets like a screenshot or video proving its readiness, and some other documentation to boot.
It felt meaningful on its own to push for this goal, despite the lack of proven productivity benefits (you can easily split-up a CR into smaller pieces, for better or for worse).
Beyond the business impact, raising these reviews brought me into a flow state, eager to complete my 'mandate' for the day. More importantly, when planned changes would dry up or get stuck in the review process, I'd search for new ideas to maintain my streak of published reviews, every day. Small change here, minor improvement there, and all of a sudden, I had interesting ideas for a wide range of topics which I never would've made the time for.
The act of writing and presenting the proof of work brought me a lot of energy and a renewed sense of curiosity. Making it a habit pushed me beyond my comfort zone. I'm trying to maintain this habit until the feeling fades away, or more logical reasons compel me otherwise.
I'd like to share some casual thoughts on readings and interesting ideas as they come along. Maybe some deeper research pieces here and there, but no hard rules. I'd rather keep my momentum than spend all night scrutinizing some notes.
